Overlooked Gall Stones

Abstract

|
A series of 160 cholecystectomies performed over a 5-year period was reviewed retrospectively. Of 22 normal common duct on intravenous cholangiograms, four (18%) yielded unexpected common duct stones by operative cholangiography. of 139 operative cholangiographies, four(2.9%) were found to have retained stones.
Two were found by postoperative T-tube cholangiography and two were found by intravenous cholangiography after discharge. One of the latter two was also overlooked by postoperative T-tube cholangiography. The cause of the overlooked gall stones were discussed.
